It is with a heavy heart that we have taken the decision to cancel this year’s edition of the Cardiff Cross Challenge. With Welsh Government restrictions still in place limiting the number of participants in any organised outdoor activity, the Cardiff Cross Challenge is currently not deemed viable as an event and would not represent a fair opportunity for all to access this flagship event in the Welsh Cross Country calendar.
Welsh Athletics are working hard behind the scenes on a return to Cross Country Competition within the current Welsh Government restrictions, with a discipline-specific guidance document to be published and made available to Competition Providers shortly. The following timeline is proposed for a return to Cross Country Competition:
- 2nd October – Welsh Government update
- 5th October – License application process opens
- 26th October – Resumption of licensed Cross Country competition
At this stage, it must be noted that these dates are provisional and will be adapted if necessary based on Welsh Government guidance updates.
As with our Return to Competition processes for other disciplines, Welsh Athletics will look to conduct pilot Cross Country races during November so that a delivery template that is both safe and compliant can be issued to allow competition providers to safely deliver competition.
